Happy Friday!

Happy Friday everybody,

We have finished up the Science senses presentations and we had a lot of fun yesterday as I brought in some tea leaves from Canada for the students to see, touch, smell, and even taste. Some of them claimed to love the ginger taste while others disliked it to the point of feigning sickness and fainting. There were a lot of laughs and we came up with some new words to describe touch. In any case we had a very good time using our senses to find out about new things! My computer is still at the repair shop but as soon as I get it back I will post the rest of the photos. I'm sure you will enjoy them.

This morning in Reading class I read the students a story about travelling to space. Following, they had the chance to write a few sentences about going to the Moon and what it would look like there. After they wrote they drew a picture to illustrate their experience on the Moon. They had a lot of fun bringing their imagination to life! I have taken photos of their work and will post them soon.

Homework
Students have homework in two subjects this weekend; Social Studies and Science. I will also send home extra English Language exercises to help them prepare for their English Test on Tuesday September 17, 2013. Students can work on these anytime between now and Tuesday.

Continuing Lesson 4, which aims to teach students how to describe a location, we will begin looking at maps.
Remember, a map is a drawing that shows where places are. It can help you find places.

Students are asked to draw a map of their home. The map does not need to have any words on it, only symbols (pictures) to help show what each room is. For example, for the bedroom, you might draw a bed.

Please note, this is a pre-assessment activity so we will do a more thorough lesson on maps on Monday.

Reflecting on our senses presentations, students are asked to look at any piece of food in their home (it does not need to be celery, as is written on the page).
They need to fill in the chart to tell what their different senses told them about the food.
For example, for celery:
Sight              It is green.
Touch            It is hard.
Smell             It smells fresh.
Hear              It is crunchy when I chew it.
Taste             It tastes good and healthy.

Students are asked to write one sentence about something they found out about their food. They can use the sentence pattern:
My (sense)____ told me it is ____________.
Example: My sight told me it is green.

Students DO NOT need to complete the ASK MORE QUESTIONS sections of the page.

Thank you! Enjoy your weekend with your families!
