1st Quarter Phonics Exam Review
Grade
1 students will have their Phonics exam during fourth
period on Wednesday October 9, 2013. For this exam students will be
tested on the following concepts:
- They should be able to recognize and name the vowels and consonants
- recognize words that have long and short vowels
- know and be able to write the long and short vowel symbols
- listen and write three letter words with short vowels (recognizing the short vowel sounds, example, cat, bed, van)
- be able to decipher between short vowel sounds (bed, bod, bad, bid)
- know the reading rules for long and short vowels
- ie. if a word has 1 vowel, it is usually short. Example, bed
- if 2 vowels are next to each other, the first vowel is long, read
- if a word has a vowel, consonant, and then e, the first vowel is long. Example, rode
